Before stepping into leadership at the Delaney Agency, Rob Purlee spent over a decade coaching college basketball by shaping young athletes, chasing wins, and living on the road. The passion was there, but the fulfillment was not. “I reached a point where the scoreboard wasn’t enough,” Rob says. “I was burned out, missing time with my family, and looking for something that could bring both purpose and stability.”
After leaving coaching, he tried his hand in another company but quickly realized he was still building someone else’s dream. That’s when a former colleague invited him to a Symmetry Financial Group overview hosted by Brian Delaney. What Rob found that day wasn’t just a business model, it was hope.
“In those early years, I didn’t just need income,” he says. “I needed belief. Seeing the success of other leaders showed me that if they could do it, so could I.”
He joined the Delaney and Pritchett hierarchy in 2017 and began to rebuild his life one client and one habit at a time. The growth wasn’t instant, it was earned. “This business has a way of shaping you,” Rob says. “You’re not cut out for it at first. The work cuts into you. It refines your character, your leadership, and your ability to serve.”
That refinement has paid off. Today, Rob leads a thriving agency in Columbus, Ohio, and mentors others through the same process of transformation he once faced. His success story isn’t measured by commissions or accolades but by what’s changed inside his home. “The real wins are the ones you can’t post,” he says. “My marriage is stronger. My kids, Carson and Kate, are happy. The peace and joy in our house, that’s the result of doing this the right way.”
For Rob, leadership is about example and not ego. “No one starts ready for this,” he says. “But if you close the back door, commit to growth, and give this opportunity the chance it deserves, it will change your life from the inside out.”
