Jim Rustman

Before building a thriving business that supports his family and hundreds of others, Jim Russman spent 15 years in law enforcement serving his community but silently searching for a way to reclaim his time, his peace, and his purpose.

When his father passed away young, Jim thought the badge would always be his calling. But as years went on, the long hours and high stress took their toll. “I had two kids at the time,” he recalls. “And I realized I was giving everything to a system that didn’t give anything back.”

In 2017, he discovered Symmetry Financial Group through a job post he almost ignored. Skeptical but curious, he took a call with a mentor who spoke about ownership, leadership, and freedom – ideas that felt foreign but magnetic. A week later, Jim walked into his sheriff’s office, laid down his badge and gun, and quit without a backup plan. “I didn’t even tell my wife” He laughs, “but I just knew I couldn’t stay stuck another day.”

The early months weren’t easy. Jim admits he brought his old habits with him: pride, independence, and resistance to coaching. “I came in with an ego. I thought leadership meant barking orders, because that’s what I’d known. But here, leadership means love. It means guidance.”

Everything changed when he attended his first bootcamp. Sitting in a room of 100 agents, Jim met mentors who saw his potential. People like Kishaw Monteith, Casey Watkins, Brandon Ellison, and Brian Delaney. “That event was the turning point,” he says. “For the first time, I felt surrounded by people who believed in me before I believed in myself.”

Through mentorship, humility, and consistent growth, Jim transformed his life. He went from earning $980 every two weeks to building a business that now generates $30,000–$40,000 a month. His wife retired from teaching, and he spends his days coaching his daughter’s team, being home when his kids walk through the door, and helping other families find the same freedom he fought for.

“The biggest thing I’ve learned is that leadership and culture are inseparable,” Jim says. “Real leadership isn’t about control, it’s about care. It’s helping people become who they were meant to be.”

For Jim, Symmetry isn’t just a business; it’s a family. It’s where belief replaced burnout and where his story turned from survival to legacy. “If you’re stuck and wondering if there’s more out there,” he says, “this is the place that will prove there is.”
